Type 2 Diabetes: Maryam Poursartip MD

Maryam Poursartip MD
Did you know that you absolutely can reverse your type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM)? It’s true! You can. Many people do not know why they have diabetes. Some people think it’s genetic and blame the family genes. I’m here to tell you that it is not your fault that you have diabetes but it is your responsibility to absolutely do everything in your power to reverse it.
Most people become diabetic later in life, they weren’t born with it. Some people are “born with” diabetes, that’s type 1 DM and there is a genetic component with that one. Less than 5% of all diseases are due to genetic causes, that means 95% of your fate lies in your own hands and the way you choose to live your life. You control your own gene expression by turning genes on or off depending on your lifestyle.
Here are a few things you can control:
1. What you think about
- Our emotional well being
- Our physical activity
- Your diet
- How much toxins are in your body
- How much trauma are you carrying subconsciously
All of these factors contribute to your gene expression and hence your health. Now that we know we can’t blame our family ( Nooooooooo whyyyyy) let’s take a good look at ourselves and do the work to turn our life around. Most of my patients often have no idea why they are even diabetic. They usually come to see me for a medication refill and a few lab orders because thats all they were ever offered. After I explain the causes of diabetes and how you can control it, they leave the visit feeling informed and empowered.
A typical visit with me begins with “you have diabetes because of the way you have been eating. Our food industry promotes a chemical diet and many of the advertisements make the foods seem appealing. If you have made bad choices in the past it is not your fault that you have diabetes but it is your responsibility.” If you are interested in getting back to your natural state of being diabetes free here are a few steps you can take:
Step 1 is making the decision and committing to it. Mindset is everything and then your body will follow the orders from your mind. It’s as simple as that, it is a choice, and whatever you choose and tolerate will become your reality. Growth and change will NEVER happen as long as you stay in your comfort zone.
Step 2 Give yourself a deadline, “ by March 30th I am no longer a diabetic, boom”, this will stamp it even more into your mind.
Step 3 Whatever you buy to eat or drink ALWAYS read the labels, the sugar AND the ingredients should NEVER be more than 5. For example, you’re looking into buying bread, turn it around and look at the sugar AND ingredients on the label, if you see anything over 5gr for sugar then it’s a no, and if you see a paragraph of ingredients, you RUUUUUN.
Step 4 – The rule of No carbs for dinner, you can have it if you like for breakfast or lunch but no carbs for dinner, basically what we’re saying is no carbs allowed with one meal. So that means for dinner no pasta, bread, rice, or potatoes. You could do fish/meat/chicken or any other protein you like with veggies or salad.
That’s it, that’s the whole process. One important thing to know is that if you are taking medications and doing this protocol, you will notice your fingersticks will start plunging down after a while, so when this happens you need to decrease your medications so speak to your doctor. This is an indication that you are shifting and you are seeing physical tangible results.
I have had a number of patients reverse their diabetes this way, a few reversed it within a month and majority within 3-6 months. This program is not for everyone but for those who are disciplined it works!.
The patient who did it within a month literally jumped out of his comfort zone and went for it, but the majority committed to getting out of their comfort zones in small steps over a period of a few months. So at the end of the end day it boils down to choice, what do you choose and tolerate in your life?
