Dr. Jenell Jackson is a board certified ophthalmologist. She grew up in a military household which afforded her the privilege of living in various geographic regions and forming relationships with people from a multitude of cultures and backgrounds. After her father’s retired from the United States Army, she spent the majority of her formative years in the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area.
After graduating from high school, she received a B.S. in biology from the University of Georgia and accepted a position as an ophthalmic technician at a local eye clinic. It was during this experience she fell in love with the field of ophthalmology and the profound impact timely and adequate eye care could have on not only a patient’s visual outcome but also their overall quality of life. She was so intrigued, she decided she also wanted to be able to have such a positive impact on other’s lives. She made the decision to attend medical school to become an ophthalmologist. She went on to attend Morehouse School of Medicine in her hometown of Atlanta Georgia where she graduated Cum Laude and matched into her residency program of choice at the renowned Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL. The diverse patient population and array of pathology allowed her to graduate residency with a high level of confidence and competency to manage the most threatening ocular diseases and traumas to the eye and surrounding structures.
After residency, she obtained additional fellowship training focusing on ocular trauma and reconstructive surgery at Beaumont Eye Institute in Michigan. During her fellowship, she trained under the tutelage of experts in the field of Oculofacial and Cosmetic Surgery.
